Head of Project “Infrastructure/Construction”
in Lilongwe, Malawi
The position is to be filled from November 2015 and has an initial contract term until 31st December 2016. Deployment location is Lilongwe, Malawi.
Aims and duties of the position
In this position you are responsible for overall coordination and implementation of Welthungerhilfe projects in Malawi in accordance with the framework specified regarding content, timing and financing. You are responsible for the planning, implementation and supervision of our infrastructure project activities in Malawi.
Your most important duties:
Coordination of construction projects with the relevant ministries and the authorities responsible for infrastructure
Planning, coordination and supervision of the construction of school kitchens, storage facilities, sanitation facilities and the rehabilitation of manual handpumps
Organisation of the procurement process for construction services
Development of digital monitoring systems for the construction and the use of facilities
Guidance of national project personnel and sub-contractors
Monitoring of construction activities and corresponding reporting
Support of the country office in the further development of WASH-related projects
As a qualified applicant you will possess the following:
A university or polytechnical degree in the area of civil engineering or a comparable qualification
Ideally, several years of experience in the implementation of projects of international (aid) organisations, preferably within the region
Extensive professional experience in the humanitarian context, in the management of complex aid measures, as well as very good analytical skills for assessing the humanitarian and health-related situation
A high level of physical and mental resilience and readiness to travel to areas with volatile local conditions
Coordination and organisational skills, including the ability to work under pressure and in difficult local conditions
Cooperation and teamworking skills
Very good level of English
